Description:

Patients:
This study involved HCV-positive diffuse large B-cell lymphoma patients who were divided into two separate treatment groups. Group A consisted of 200 patients with an average age of 53.6 years; 59.5% were male. Group B had 80 patients with an average age of 53.9 years; 60% were male.

Treatment:
Patients in group A were given chemotherapy (including cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, and vincristine), the steroid hormone prednisone, and biologic therapy with rituximab.

Patients in group B were given chemotherapy (including cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, and vincristine), and the steroid hormone prednisone.

Toxicities:
Study-related deaths due to heart failure and liver failure were reported for group A. Grade 4 liver toxicity was also reported.

Results:
The median overall survival rates for groups A and B were 51 and 43 months, respectively.
