Description:

Patients: This phase II study involved 82 patients with advanced metastatic rectal cancer. Fifty-five patients were men, and twenty-seven were women. The median age was 59.

Treatment: The treatment consisted of radiotherapy and one chemotherapeutic agent: 5-fluorouracil.

Toxicity: No Grade 4 toxicities were reported. Grade 3 toxicities included gastrointestinal toxicity. Other toxicities included sexual dysfunction (13 patients), dyspareunia (3 patients) and impotence (10 patients).

Results: Although no median overall survival was reported, ninety-eight percent of patients survived after one year, ninety percent after two, and eighty-seven percent after three.
