Description:

Patients: Fifty-three patients with rectal carcinoma were part of this study (Dukes stages A-C).

Treatment: Treatment consisted of low anterior resection and total mesorectal excision (surgery), regardless of the location of the rectal cancer.

Toxicity: There were four major and eight minor complications, these included: clinical leakage, pneumonia, cardiac arrhythmia, wound infection, urinary tract infection, prolonged ileus, and radiologic leakage.

Results: The overall 5-year survival rate was 75%.
