Description:

Patients: This Phase II trial involved 13 patients with advanced renal cell carcinoma; 9 men and 4 women. Median age was 55 years. Prior therapies included nephrectomy (8 patients), immunotherapy (6 patients), and radiation therapy (4 patients).

Treatment: The treatment consisted of irofulven, an analog of the mushroom derived product illudin S.

Toxicity: Grade 3-4 toxicities included dyspnea, hematologic, gastrointestinal, dehydration, and hallucinations.

Results: There were no major responses and overall survival was not discussed.
