Description:

Patients:
This study involved malignant pleural mesothelioma patients who were divided into two separate treatment groups. Group A consisted of 33 patients with a median age of 65 years; 79% were male. Group B had 15 patients with a median age of 71 years; 87% were male.

Treatment:
Patients in group A received chemotherapy with vinorelbine.

Patients in group B received chemotherapy with gemcitabine.

Toxicities:
The most severe toxicities in group A were of grade 4 and included grade 3-4 leucopenia and neutropenia with fever.

The most severe toxicities in group B were of grade 4 and included grade 3-4 anemia and dyspnea.

Results:
The median overall survival rates for groups A and B were 5.4 and 4.9 months, respectively.
