Description:

Patients:
This phase 2 study involved 41 postmenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer. The median patient age was 64.5 years.

Treatment:
Patients were treated with the biologic therapy agent fulvestrant, an estrogen receptor inhibitor that interferes with cancer cell growth, and the chemotherapy agent capecitabine.

Toxicities:
The most severe toxicities were grade 4 hypokalemia (low blood potassium) and pulmonary embolism. Grade 3 hand-foot skin reaction was also reported.

Results:
The median overall survival was 28.65 months.
