Description:

Patients:
This study involved 43 patients with recurrent primary glioblastoma multiforme. The median age of the group was 54 years and 58% were male.

Treatment:
Patients were treated with the biologic therapies bevacizumab (an antibody that blocks a protein involved in cancer cell growth) and cetuximab (a monoclonal antibody that targets cancer cells to be killed by the immune system), as well as the chemotherapy agent irinotecan.

Toxicities:
There was one reported treatment-related death due to heart attack. In addition, 14% of patients experienced grade 3-4 infection, 9% grade 3-4 thrombocytopenia, and 60% had grade 1-2 skin reactions.

Results:
The reported median overall survival was 6.9 months.
