Description:

Patients: This Phase II study involved a total of 42 patients with metastatic hepatocellular carcinoma. There were 36 men and 6 women and the median age was 45 years. Of the 42 patients, 37 were considered evaluable for treatment response.

Treatment: Treatment consisted of two chemotrherapy drugs: doxorubicin and cisplatin.

Toxicity: There was one treatment related death due to septic shock. In addition, grade 4 toxicities included leukopenia, diarrhea, and anorexia. Grade 3 toxicities also included anemia, thrombocytopenia, hyperbilirubinemia, nausea/vomiting, stomatitis, and alopecia.

Results: The median survival for the 37 evaluable patients was 7.3 months.
