Description:

Patients: This Phase II study involved 25 patients with advanced renal cell carcinoma, 18 men and 7 women. The median age was 57.2 years. Patients had inoperable or metastatic tumors. Eighteen patients had undergone a prior nephrectomy, but none had prior systemic treatment.

Treatment: The treatment consisted of the administration of the chemotherapy drug, capecitabine (xeloda) with interferon alpha-2A.

Toxicity: Grade 3-4 toxicities included fatigue, fever, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, hand-foot syndrome, diarrhea, weight loss, stomatitis, skin rash, myalgia, pain, colpitis, and hematological and enzyme toxicities.

Results: The median survival time was 248 days (8.1 months).
