Description:

Patients:
This study involved advanced urothelial cancer patients who had not received prior chemotherapy. Patients were divided into two separate treatment groups. Group A included 119 patients with a median age of 70 years and 75.6% male. Group B included 119 patients with a median age of 72 years and 80.7% male.

Treatment:
Patients in group A were treated with the chemotherapy agents gemcitabine and carboplatin.
Patients in group B were treated with the chemotherapy agents methotrexate, carboplatin, and vinblastine.

Toxicities:
There were two treatment-related deaths reported in group A but specific causes were not reported. Grade 3-4 leucopenia, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, and infection were also reported.
There were four treatment-related deaths reported in group B but specific causes were not reported. Grade 3-4 leucopenia, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, and infection were also reported.

Results:
The median overall survival rates for groups A and B were 9.3 and 8.1 months, respectively.
