Description:

Patients: This Phase III trial involved a total of 259 patients with metastatic or relapsed non-small cell lung cancer. Patients were divided into two groups: Group A comprised of 133 patients, and Group B comprised of 126 patients.

Treatment: Group A patients were administered two drugs, vinorelbine and cisplatin. (NP) Group B patients were administered three drugs – vinorelbine (navelbine), ifosfamide (IFEX), and cisplatin (platinol).

Toxicity: There were 8 toxic deaths in Group B. Other toxicities in this group included hematological (grade 3-4), nausea and vomiting (grade 3-4), elevation of transaminases (grade 3-4), and alopecia.

Results: Median survival in Group B was 8.2 months.
