Description:

Patients:
This phase 2 study involved 27 newly diagnosed glioblastoma patients with a median age of 52 years; 63% were male.

Treatment:
Patients were treated with radiation therapy, chemotherapy with temozolomide, and the biologic therapy agent erlotinib, which is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor that interferes with tumor blood supply.

Toxicities:
Treatment-related deaths due to pneumonia and other infections were reported. Grade 4 thrombocytopenia and grade 3 fatigue were also reported.

Results:
The median progression-free survival was 2.8 months and the median overall survival was 8.6 months.
