Description:

Patients: This Phase II study involved 26 patients with recurrent malignant gliomas. Fourteen had glioblastoma multiforme or gliosarcoma (i.e. grade IV), and there were 12 patients with grade III tumors (8 anaplastic astrocytomas, 1 oligodendroglioma, and 3 mixed malignant gliomas).

Treatment: The treatment consisted of high central dose Gamma Knife radiosurgery and the drug marimastat.

Toxicity: Toxicity included musculoskeletal (grade 1-3), hematologic (grade 1-2), and nausea/vomiting (grade 1-2).

Results: For the grade IV patients, the median survival was 38 weeks (8.8 months).
