Description:

Patients: This Phase II study involved 38 patients with advanced renal cell carcinoma. Thirty-four patients were considered eligible - 22 men and 12 women. Twenty-four patients had prior nephrectomies.

Treatment: The treatment consisted of flavopiridol, a cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor that prevents cell cycle progression and tumor growth.

Toxicities: Grade 4 toxicities included: dyspnea, hyperglycemia, neutropenia, and granulocytopenia. In addition, there were two thrombotic events: one pulmonary embolism and one deep venous thrombosis.

Results: The median survival was 9 months.
