Description:

Patients: This Phase II study involved 25 patients with recurrent glioblastoma multiforme and 5 patients with recurrent anaplastic astrocytoma. All patients had been previously treated with surgical resection followed by radiation therapy.

Treatment: Treatment consisted of the chemotherapy drugs – carboplatin (CBCDA) and etoposide (VP-16). (The chemotherapy drug temozolomide was given to 11 patients who relapsed or had disease progression on CBCDA and VP-16).

Toxicity: Neutropenia occurred in 9 patients: four patients had grade 4, two patients had grade 3 and three patients had grade 2. One patient had severe ototoxicity.

Results: The median survival time was 9 months for the glioblastoma patients.
