Description:

Patients:
This phase II study involved women with advanced or metastatic breast cancer. The patients were divided into two separate treatment groups. Group A consisted of 19 patients with a median age of 52 years. Group B had 18 patients with a median age of 53 years.

Treatment:
Patients in group A were treated with the chemotherapy agents capecitabine and docetaxel.
Group B patients were treated with the chemotherapy agents paclitaxel and capecitabine.

Toxicities:
The most severe adverse events in group A were of grade 4 and included grade3/4 neutropenia (12 cases) and leukopenia (9).
The most severe adverse events in group B were of grade 4 and included grade3/4 hand-foot skin reaction (4 cases) and neutropenia (3).

Results:
The median overall survival rates for groups A and B were 15.3 and 30.7 months, respectively.
