Description:

Patients: This phase II study involved 45 patients with advanced-stage progressive hepatocellular carcinoma. They ranged in age from 22 to 76 years old; the median age was 63 years of age.

Treatment: Patients were treated with the chemotherapy drugs gemcitabine and oxaliplatin and the biological therapy cetuximab (a monoclonal antibody).

Toxicities: Grade 3 and 4 toxicities included skin rash, neurotoxicity, nausea/vomiting, thrombocytopenia, neutropenia and anemia. Grade 2 allergic reactions were reported in 2 patients.

Results: The median overall survival was 9.5 months.
