Description:

Patients: This phase 2 study involved 56 patients with unresectable localized or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer. There were 39 men and 17 women in the study. Their median age was 61, ranging from 37 to 71 years of age.

Treatment: Patients were treated with the chemotherapy drugs vinorelbine and carboplatin. Patients were first given a combination of vinorelbine and carboplatin, and then vinorelbine alone.

Toxicity: The most common grade 4 toxicity was neutropenia, which was reported in almost half of patients during the combination drug treatment. Other, less common, grade 4 toxicities were anemia, leucopenia, thrombocytopenia, and edema.

Results: The median overall survival was 9.7 months.
