Description:

Patients: This phase 2 study involved 45 women with HER-2 positive metastatic breast cancer. Their median age was 55, ranging from 34 to 71 years of age. About half had received radiation therapy before entering this study.

Treatment: These patients were treated with the biological therapy trastuzumab and the chemotherapy drug epirubicin.

Toxicity: Grade 4 neutropenia and leucopenia were reported in 13.6 and 4.5% of patients, respectively. Grade 3 and less severe toxicities included alopecia, diarrhea, mucositis, nausea/vomiting, thrombocytopenia, anemia, neutropenia and leucopenia.

Results: The median overall survival time was 32.8 months.
