Description:

Patients:
This phase 2 study involved female metastatic breast cancer patients who were divided into two separate groups based on treatment and genetic status of their cancer. Group A consisted of 52 patients with HER-negative cancer with an average age of 53.6 years. Group B had 21 patients with HER-positive cancer with an average age of 52.8 years.

Treatment:
Patients in group A received biologic therapy with bevacizumab and chemotherapy with docetaxel.
Patients in group B received biologic therapy with bevacizumab and trastuzumab, and chemotherapy with docetaxel.

Toxicities:
The most severe toxicities in group A were of grade 4 and included grade 3-4 fatigue, mucosal inflammation, and high blood pressure.

The most severe toxicities in group B were of grade 4 and included grade 3-4 fatigue, nail discoloration, and urinary tract infection.

Results:
The median overall survival rates for groups A and B were 24.7 and 32.4 months, respectively.
