Description:

Patients: This Phase II study involved 19 patients with advanced renal carcinoma. 12 were men and 7 were women. The median age was 58. 17 patients had nephrectomies.

Treatment: The treatment consisted of fenretinide, which is a synthetic form of retinoid.

Toxicities: Grade 3 toxicities included thrombosis, fatigue, vomiting and diarrhea. Grade 2 toxicities included nyctalopia and visual toxicity.

Results: No objective responses were noted at the median survival was 10 months.
