Description:

Patients: This Phase II study involved 21 patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma; 13 men and 8 women. The median age was 58 years. Twelve patients had undergone a prior nephrectomy and ten patients had undergone prior immunotherapy or chemotherapy.

Treatment: The treatment consisted of three chemotherapy drugs – gemcitabine (gemzar), cisplatin (platinol), and fluorouracil (adrucil).

Toxicity: Nine patients came off the treatment due to toxicity. Grade 4 toxicities included neutropenia, pain, pulmonary, and hyperkalemia.

Results: There was one partial response and the median overall survival was 10 months.
