Description:

Patients: This Phase II study involved 44 patients with recurrent glioblastoma multiforme.

Treatment: The treatment consisted of temozolomide (temodar) and the matrix metalloproteinase inhibitor marimastat (MRM) after radiation therapy.

Toxicity: The most notable toxicity was arthropathy. Joint complaints were reported in 21 patients (47%) and were grade 3 or 4 in 17 patients (38%). Other grade 3-4 toxicities included: vomiting, fatigue/lethargy, thrombocytopenia, seizure, hyperglycemia, and thrombosis.

Results: Median overall survival (measured from the first day of treatment) was 45 weeks (10.5 months).
