Description:

Patients: This Phase II study involved 38 patients with small-cell carcinoma of the prostate. The median age was 65 years

Treatment: The treatment consisted of three chemotherapy drugs – doxorubicin (doxil), etoposide (VP-16, vepesid), and cisplatin (platinol).

Toxicity: The authors described the therapy as “fairly toxic.” There were three deaths secondary to sepsis (infection). In addition, grade 4 toxicities included: hematologic, fatigue, nausea/vomiting, cardiovascular (thrombosis/pulomary embolism), small bowel obstruction, pancreatitis, and bilirubin.

Results: The median overall survival was 10.5 months (for the 36 assessable patients.)
