Description:

Patients: This phase II study involved 40 patients with advanced, unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (liver cancer). The median age was 64 years, ranging from 33 to 83. The majority (80%) of patients were men.

Treatment: Patients were treated with the chemotherapy drug erlotinib.

Toxicity: No grade 4 toxicities were reported. The most common grade 3 toxicities were diarrhea, folliculitis, fatigue, pruritus (itching), dry skin, xerostomia (dry mouth), and epistaxis (bleeding from the nose).

Results: The median overall survival was 10.75 months (43 weeks).
