Description:

Patients: In the experimental arm of this Phase III study, there were 109 Patients with newly diagnosed supratentorial glioblastoma multiforme (one patient was classified as having a gliosarcoma and one patient was classified as having a mixed high grade astrocytoma).

Treatment: Infusional carmustine (BiCNU) and cisplatin (platinol) and radiation therapy.

Toxicity: 91% of patients experienced grade 3-5 toxicities. There were three treatment related deaths – grade 5 (cardiac, infection, pulmonary embolism). Grade 3-4 toxicities included: myelosuppression, nausea, vomiting, metabolic and phlebitis.

Results: The median survival time was 11.0 months.
