Description:

Patients: Twenty-one patients with newly diagnosed glioblastoma were enrolled in this Phase II study.

Treatment: The treatment consisted of preirradiation chemotherapy gemcitabine (gemzar), followed by standard radiotherapy.

Toxicity: In the first cycle, three patients had grade 1 myelotoxicity, 2 had grade 2 myelotoxicity, and 2 had grade 3 myelotoxicity. In the second cycle, 5 patients had grade 1 myelotoxicity and 1 patient had a grade 2 myelotoxicity. One patient developed fatal bacterial pneumonia.

Results: The median overall survival was 11 months.
