Description:

Patients: Forty patients with locally advanced rectal cancer were involved in this Phase II study.

Treatment: Treatment consisted of the combination of radiation, fluorouracil (adrucil), and oxaliplatin (eloxatin) followed by surgery.

Toxicity: Grade 3 to 4 toxicity was seen in seven patients (17%) for a total of 16 different toxicities. These toxicities included: hematologic, liver function, neurotoxicity, gastrointestinal toxicity, hand-foot syndrome, fever, and fatigue.

Results: An objective clinical response was seen in 75% of patients. Overall median survival was not discussed.
