Description:

Patients: This Phase I study involved a total of 27 patients with solid malignancies. Six patients had advanced breast cancer.

Treatment: Treatment consisted of an inhibitor (BAY12-9566) of matrix metalloproteinases, a family of proteolytic enzymes.

Toxicity: One patient developed cardiac arrest related to hyperkalemia. Other toxicities included grade 2 bilirubin toxicity, grade 2 alkaline phosphatase toxicity, deep vein thrombosis, grade 1 headaches, grade 3 musculoskeletal back pain, and grade 3 nausea and vomiting.

Results: No responses were seen and survival was not discussed.
