Description:

Patients: This phase 2 study involved 43 patients with recurrent glioblastoma. There were 28 men and 15 women. The median age was 53, ranging from 23 to 71 years old. They had all been treated with surgery and radiotherapy with temozolomide before entering this study.

Treatment: Patients were treated with the chemotherapy drug carboplatin and the biological therapy erlotinib.

Toxicity: One patient died, but the death was not thought to be due to the study drugs. Grade 4 abdominal pain, neutropenia, lymphopenia, thrombocytopenia, fatigue, and weakness were reported, each in less than 4 patients. Grade 3 toxicities were more common, with grade 3 neutropenia, lymphopenia, and thrombocytopenia being reported in 13, 17, and 12 patients, respectively.

Results: The median overall survival was 6.9 months (30 weeks).
