Description:

Patients: This trial involved 20 patients with inoperable hepatocellular (liver) carcinoma. Patients were evenly divided into two groups – 10 patients in group A and 10 patients in group B.

Treatment: Group A patients received (131)I-Lipiodol therapy alone. Group B patients received (131)I-Lipiodol combined with low-dose cisplatin. (131)I-Lipiodol is a radionuclide.

Toxicity: Toxicity in group A included increasing bilirubin levels (grade 3), changes in blood count, pyrexia, nausea/vomiting, abdominal discomfort, progression of liver failure, diarrhea and other laboratory changes.

Results: Median survival was 7.0 months (group A).
