Description:

Patients: This Phase I study involved 40 patients with recurrent malignant gliomas. Thirty-four patients had glioblastoma multiforme, five had anaplastic astrocytoma, and one patient had an anaplastic oligodendroglioma.

Treatment: The treatment consisted of administration of the chemotherapy drug, irinotecan (camptosar).

Toxicity: Dose limiting toxicities included grade 3 abdominal cramping, grade 4 diarrhea, and febrile neutropenia.

Results: Median overall survival was 7.4 months for all patients.
