Description:

Patients:
Non-small cell lung cancer patients in this phase 3 study were divided into two treatment groups. Group 1 consisted of 67 patients with a median age of 62 years, 95.5% of whom were male. Group 2 was made up of 65 patients with a median age of 63 years and 86.2% male. All patients in these groups had disease progression following previous platinum-free or docetaxel-free chemotherapy.

Treatment:
Patients in group 1 were given a combination of two chemotherapy agents, docetaxel and carboplatin.

Patients in group 2 were given the single chemotherapy agent docetaxel.

Toxicities:
The maximum level of toxicity reported for group 1 was of grade 4 and included neutropenia (4 patients) and diarrhea (1 patient). Grade 3 anemia was also reported (3 patients).

The maximum toxicity reported for group 2 was of grade 4 and included one case each of neutropenia, allergy, and fatigue.

Results:
Median overall survival in group 1 was 10.3 months.

For group 2, the median overall survival was 7.7 months.
