Description:

Patients: This phase II study involved 39 patients with metastatic colorectal cancer. The median age was 62, ranging from 33 to 78 years of age. There were 19 men and 21 women in this study.

Treatment: Patients were treated with the biological therapy cetuximab and the chemotherapy irinotecan.

Toxicity: Twelve patients reported grade 3 or 4 toxicities. Grade 4 diarrhea was reported in two patients, and the grade 3 toxicities were skin rash, diarrhea, anemia, neutropenia, and nausea. Grade 2 paronychia (infection of the fingernail or toenail), alopecia (hair loss), skin rash, and asthenia (weakness) were also reported.

Results: The median overall survival was 8 months from the start of treatment.
