Description:

Patients: This Phase II trial involved a total of 55 patients with metastatic colorectal cancer. There were 30 men and 25 women. The median age was 68.5. Forty-nine patients had prior surgery.

Treatment: The treatment consisted of a type of an oral biological therapy – R115777 a farnesyltransferase inhibitor.

Toxicity: There was one death attributable to treatment. The death was from infection. Grade 3 or 4 toxicities included abdominal pain, anemia, anorexia, dehydration, fatigue, leucopenia, nausea, thrombocytopenia, and vomiting.

Results: The median overall survival was 8.1 months. There were no complete responses.
