Description:

Patients: This study involved 40 patients with advanced (stage IIIb or IV) non-small-cell lung cancer. The average age of all patients was 62 years.

Treatment: The treatment consisted of immunotherapy with epidermal growth factor (EGF). (Patients also were given different adjuvants in the EGF vaccine preparation and some patients were also administered the chemotherapy cyclophosphamide for “prevaccination.”)

Toxicity: Grade 2 toxicities included chills, fever, vomiting, nausea, hypertension, cephalea, dizziness, flushing, pain at the site of injection, bone pain, mouth dryness, and hot flashes.

Results: The median survival for all vaccinated patients was 8.17 months.
