Description:

Patients:
This phase 2 study involved 48 metastatic malignant melanoma patients with a median age of 60 years; 66% were male.

Treatment:
Patients were treated with the chemotherapy agent temozolomide and the biologic therapy agent everolimus, which is classified as an mTOR inhibitor and interferes with cancer cell growth.

Toxicities:
The most severe toxicities were of grade 4 and included neutropenia and thrombocytopenia. Grade 2-3 fatigue and anorexia were also reported.

Results:
The median overall survival was 8.6 months. The median progression-free survival was 2.4 months.
