Description:

Patients: This Phase II study involved 38 patients with advanced breast cancer. Prior therapies included hormonal (21 patients), chemotherapy (37 patients), and radiotherapy (24 patients).

Treatment: The treatment consisted of immunotherapy, recombinant human interleukin-2 (rIL-2) and interferon alpha-2a (IFN).

Toxicity: Grade 4 toxicities included hematologic, malaise/fatigue, neurotoxicity (mood), nausea, vomiting, and dyspnea.

Results: There were no complete responses and one partial response. Median survival was 8.9 months. The authors concluded that “This combination of rIL-2 and IFN was ineffective.”
