Description:

Patients: This Phase II study involved 47 patients with newly diagnosed glioblastoma multiforme.

Treatment: Treatment consisted of the administration of two chemotherapy drugs, BCNU and cisplatin followed by radiotherapy.

Toxicity: Two patients died while undergoing treatment and their deaths were thought to be possibly treatment-related. In respect to chemotherapy, toxicities included: leucopenia (grade 3-4), granulocytopenia (grade 3-4), thrombocytopenia (grade 3-4), anemia (grade 3-4), infection (grade 3-4), nausea (grade 3), vomiting (grade 3), liver (grade 3), cardiac (grade 4), pulmonary (grade 4), phlebitis (DVT or PE) (grade 3-4), neurologic worsening (grade 3-4), metabolic (grade 3), and coagulation (grade 3).

Results: Median survival was 9.3 months.
