Description:

Patients:
This study involved small-cell lung cancer patients who were divided into two separate treatment groups. Group A had 328 patients with a median age of 67 years and 77.7% male. Group B had 335 patients with a median age of 66 years and 77.9% male.

Treatment:
Patients in group A were treated with the chemotherapy agent cisplatin.

Patients in group B were treated with the chemotherapy agent carboplatin.

Toxicities:
Treatment-related deaths due to unspecified causes were reported in group A. Grade 3 or higher neutropenia and leucopenia were also reported.

Results:
The median overall survival for groups A and B was 9.6 and 9.4 months, respectively.
