Description:

Patients:
This study involved 123 metastatic colorectal cancer patients who had been previously treated with irinotecan. The median age was 56 years and 59.3% were male.

Treatment:
Patients were treated with the chemotherapy agent irinotecan and the biologic therapy agent cetuximab, which is a monoclonal antibody that blocks a protein (EGFR) involved in cancer cell growth.

Toxicities:
There was one reported treatment-related death but the specific cause was not given. Otherwise, grade 3-4 diarrhea (13.8% of patients), neutropenia (8.9%), and vomiting (5.7%) were reported.

Results:
The median progression-free and overall survival rates were 2.8 and 9.5 months, respectively.
