Description:

Patients:
This phase II study involved 47 patients with transitional cell cancer of the urothelium, a type of bladder cancer, who had received prior chemotherapy. The median patient age was 64 years and 80.9% were male.

Treatment:
Patients were treated with the chemotherapy agent pemetrexed. Patients also received prophylactic care with folic acid and B12 vitamins and with the steroid dexamethasone.

Toxicity:
The most severe adverse events were of grade 4 and included leukopenia and neutropenia.

Results:
The reported median overall survival was 9.6 months.
