Description:

Patients: This Phase I trial included 47 patients with glioblastoma multiforme.

Treatment: The treatment consisted of a chemotherapy drug, topotecan (hycamtin) plus cranial radiation.

Toxicity: One objective of this Phase I study was to document the acute and delayed treatment-related toxicities of topotecan administered at three different doses. At the highest dose (1.5 mg/m2/d) there was grade 4 neutropenia and leucopenia.

Results: Median survival for all patients was 9.7 months. There was no apparent difference in survival by topotecan dose schedule.
