Description:

Patients: This Phase II trial involved a total of 117 patients with advanced non-small-cell lung cancer. There were 98 men and 19 women. Seventy-nine patients had stage IV disease and 39 patients had stage IIIB disease.

Treatment: The treatment consisted of the chemotherapy drug gemcitabine. (Some patients received 50 mg/min and some received 10 mg/min.)

Toxicity: Grade 3-4 toxicities included hematological, gastrointestinal, neurological, hepatic, and cardiovascular.

Results: The median overall survival for all patients (regardless of dosing schedule) was 9.8 months.
