Description:

Patients: This Phase II study involved a total of 267 patients with advanced (Stage IIIB and IV) non-small-cell lung carcinoma. Patients were divided into 4 groups: Group A contained 71 patients; Group B contained 65 patients; Group C contained 64 patients; Group D contained 67 patients.

Treatment: The treatment for patients in Group B consisted of three drugs – paclitaxel (taxol), carboplatin (paraplatin), and vinorelbine (navelbine).

Toxicity: In total there were 5 treatment related deaths, one of which occurred in Group B. Other toxicities in this group included grade 4 leukopenia and thrombocytopenia, grade 3 anemia, grade 2-3 neuropathy, grade 2 alopecia, grade 2-3 nausea/vomiting, grade 2-3 diarrhea, and grade 3-4 myalgia/arthralgia.

Results: Median survival for patients in Group B was 9.9 months.
