Description:

Patients: The phase II portion of this study involved 121 patients with advanced non-small-cell lung cancer. The median age was 73, ranging from 67 to 83 years old. The majority of patients were men,.

Treatment: The patients were divided into two treatment groups. Sixty patients were treated with cisplatin and gemcitabine. Sixty-one patients were treated with cisplatin and vinorelbine. These are chemotherapies.

Toxicity: One treatment-related death occurred from febrile neutropenia in the group treated with cisplatin and vinorelbine. Grade 3 and 4 toxicities included leukopenia, neutropenia, anemia, cardiac toxicity, neurological toxicity, and fatigue. The frequency of grade 3 and 4 toxicities was somewhat higher in the group receiving cisplatin and vinorelbine.
