Description:

Patients: This Phase II single arm study involved 55 patients with newly diagnosed glioblastoma multiforme. 60% were men, and the age range was from 31-79.4 years. 87% had resective surgery.

Treatment: Patients received radiation therapy and the chemotherapy drug carboxyamido-triazole.

Toxicity: The major toxicities were febrile neutropenia, one case of fatal hemorrage, hepatotoxicity, and hyperuricemia. The most frequent grade 3 or 4 toxicity reported was fatigue. Two patients had reversible loss of vision.

Results: The median survival time was 10.3 months. 52 of the 55 patients have died. The authors concluded that 'the survival of patients with newly diagnosed glioblastoma multiforme was not improved with this novel agent, despite achieving adequate drug levels.
