Description:

Patients:
This phase 3 study involved muscle-invasive bladder cancer patients who were divided into two separate treatment groups. Group A consisted of 66 patients with a median age of 63 years; 60 were male. Group B had 64 patients with a median age of 63 years; 57 were male.

Treatment:
Patients in group A received surgery (radical cystectomy).

Patients in group B received chemotherapy with methotrexate, doxorubicin, vinblastine and cisplatin, and surgery (radical cystectomy).

Toxicities:
The most severe toxicities in group A were of grade 4 and included grade 3-4 infection and thrombosis (blood clot).

The most severe toxicities in group B were grade 4 neutropenia and anemia. Grade 3 loss of appetite and nausea was also reported.

Results:
The median overall survival for groups A and B were 82 and 102 months, respectively.
